The weather’s been a bit mixed the past few weeks, to say the least, but with spring around the corner warmer weather is on its way, and that means one thing… no, not cutting the grass, firing up the barbecue for the first get together of the year with family and friends!
Here at Tasty Trotter, we think cooking outdoors is one of the best things to do, and we regularly fire up one of our commercial griddles for sale all throughout the year, even if we do get funny looks from the neighbours. For most, barbecuing is a pastime for the warmer months and the first opportunity of the year is nearly here!
We like to think of a springtime BBQ as a celebration that winter is over, so why not invite your loved ones around to toast the return of warm weather and fun times with your very own spring BBQ party? And to make it a guaranteed success, read our top tips below:
You need to set the atmosphere. Start with mellow, laidback tunes with the volume not too loud. You want to drown out background noise such as cutlery scraping on plates but still want to be able to hear what people are saying.
As the evening progresses, up the tempo and volume and even better yet have a docking station where people can choose their own songs from their smartphone.
Whilst spring does see some glorious temperatures, the evenings can still be chilly. Drape blankets over chairs and have some patio heaters ready to warm up anyone who begins to get cold. Even better yet, have an open fire with a stash of logs that guests can add on as they wish, and don’t forget the marshmallows!
Always opt for the best cuts of meat you can afford as this will reflect in the final dish. Homemade burgers are always a winner, and have a table set up as a build your own burger station, everyone’s different, and so are their burgers preferences, so this is a good and easy way to accommodate their needs.
Keeping it simple but of high-quality is key here, so do not over complicate things, aside from burgers add a big dish such as a leg of lamb or a beef brisket cooked slowly in a delicious marinade rub that is slowly cooked over a griddle or coals. For extra flavour throw fresh herbs on to your coals for a delicious smoke-infused dish.
Always offer a vegetarian option; haloumi and spiced vegetable kebabs are always a winner in our books!
For the person behind the grill, a cold beer is a must. So have a container filled with ice and beers, because there are so many supermarket deals nowadays that this is always a good way to keep guest’s thirsts quenched without breaking the bank.
For wine drinkers, have some red wine that will complement the food out. An Australian Merlot, and white wines full of citrus tasting notes, such as a New Zealand Sav Blanc, that will cut through the richness of the meat are always good choices.
Much like the burger station, have a drinks station as well. Stock it full of tonics, sparkling waters, fruit juices and soft drinks. This will allow people to sort their own drinks and it’s always good to allow guests to bring their own as well.
We hope you have gained a bit of inspiration for your BBQ party and if you’re wondering ‘where can I buy a griddle?’, visit us at Tasty Trotter for all your barbecue needs.
